As gym goers and fitness fanatics, we’ve all become accustomed to the usual flavours when it comes to post-workout protein shakes. Chocolate and Vanilla are the go-to options when it comes to most brands.

Myprotein’s Clear Whey Isolate protein shakes stand out from the crowd because of their unusual fruity flavours. We were really keen to give this product a go, so we asked out friends over at Myprotein to send us over a tub to test out for ourselves.

In this review, we’re going to focus on the main things you need to know about this unique protein powder product.

We’re going to concentrate specifically on the ingredients, the flavours and the nutritional content as we look to see where it stands in comparison to some of the other similar products out there.

So, without further ado, let’s start taking a closer look at the Myprotein Clear Whey Isolate supplement in a bit more detail.

Myprotein Clear Whey Protein – The Basics

The Myprotein Clear Whey Protein range has been around for a while now, and it certainly caused a bit of a stir when it was first released because of its unique flavours.

You’re no doubt already familiar with the creamier flavours of protein powders that are the traditional options when it comes to post-workout protein shakes.

Chocolate and Vanilla are usually the most common, and although some manufacturers do venture into producing some fruitier flavours such as Strawberry, the products as a whole represent more of a ‘milkshake’ taste and texture than a fruity refreshing drink.

That’s what sets the Clear Whey range apart. Available in a number of different fruity flavours, ranging from Cranberry and Raspberry (the one we tried) to Mojito, Watermelon and Peach Tea, there are plenty of options when it comes to getting your fruity fix.

The flavours available in the Clear Whey range probably look more like options you’d expect to find when picking out a good pre workout supplement. Think of the Clear Whey supplement as a protein shake that tastes like a pre workout.

According to the official product page on the Myprotein website, Clear Whey won the ‘The Best Sports Nutrition Product’ in the European Specialist Sports Nutrition Awards in 2019.

The product page on the site goes on to say that this supplement uses high quality hydrolysed whey protein isolate, which is then formulated into a light and refreshing alternative option that’s more like juice than a milky protein shake.

Myprotein recently added some new flavours to their range for Clear Whey, including Watermelon, Mango and Coconut and Cranberry and Raspberry.

The nutritional values of the supplement are also pretty impressive. Each serving delivers 20g of protein at under 90 calories per serving. Each serving has 0.1g of fat, 0.3g of sugar, 4g of BCAA and 3g Glutamine.

It all sounds pretty good so far. Let’s now move on to the next important section in our Clear Whey review – the ingredients.

The Ingredients

When it comes to choosing a whey protein shake, the main thing to bear in mind is the quality of the protein itself and what the product contains in terms of flavourings and sweeteners.

Editor's note: Any health claims about the ingredients mentioned in this article are listed as authorised on the EU Register at the time of publishing. Additionally, you should carefully check the ingredients information shown on the official website of any product you're considering purchasing, as formulas may change from time to time and therefore may differ from what's shown on this page.

As mentioned above, the main ingredient in this supplement is Whey Protein Hydrolysate, which makes up 94 per cent of the total serving.

Other than that, this supplement has a pretty clear and straightforward ingredients formula. Aside from the whey protein, the ingredients label says that this supplement contains the following: flavouring, Stabiliser (Phosphoric Acid), Acid (Citric Acid), Sweetener (Sucralose), Anti-Foaming Agents (Polydimethylsiloxane, Silicon Dioxide).

So, you can no doubt see for yourself that it’s a pretty clear and straightforward ingredients list when it comes to the Clear Whey supplement.

Here are the key nutritional values you need to know about:

Clear Whey Isolate – Per Serving:

• Energy – 349 kJ / 83 kcal
• Protein – 20g
• Total Carbs – 0.7g
• Sugars – 0.2g
• Fat – 0.1g

So, all in all, it’s all pretty impressive from a nutritional standpoint.

The only slight gripe we have is the use of the sweetener Sucralose. If we were being picky, we may choose to go for a supplement which uses a more natural alternative to enhance the flavour.

Talking of the flavour, let’s now move onto the next section of our MyProtein Clear Whey review.

The Taste And Flavour

Let’s face it, if you’re thinking about buying this supplement then you’re probably sick of the regular creamy protein shakes that dominate the market.

What’s great about the Clear Whey supplement is that it really does taste like fruit juice when mixed properly.

We mixed a scoop of the Cranberry and Raspberry flavour into a glass of water and stirred it thoroughly. The directions suggest that you use a shaker bottle, which will probably help to make the powder dissolve quicker.

The scoop mixed in pretty well, although it did need a bit longer than our regular protein powder to dissolve fully.

Once fully dissolved, it formed a dark pink clear liquid that really does look like a concentrated fruit juice.

The taste was great. It was very sweet and fruity, and overall very drinkable. The sweetness may be too much for some people, but we liked it.

Price And Where To Buy

As usual, the best place to get your hands on Myprotein’s supplements is via the official website.

The Clear Whey range comes in one fixed size of 20 servings, which is 498g. It costs £28.99 from the official Myprotein site.

Is There A Vegan Version?

If you’re looking for a vegan version of the Clear Whey, then you’re in luck.

Myprotein also have a plant-based version of this supplement called Myprotein Clear Vegan Protein.

It’s currently available in four different flavours:

• Apple and Elderflower
• Lemon and Lime
• Pineapple and Grapefruit
• Strawberry

It’s all pretty similar to the Clear Whey protein supplement, but as is the case with most plant-based protein powder, it contains a bit less total protein per serving.

One serving of the Clear Vegan Protein from Myprotein contains 54 calories, 10 grams of protein, 2.6g total carbs and 0.1 grams of fat.

It’s a bit more expensive than the Clear Whey supplement, coming in at £24.99 per tub containing 20 servings (320g).

If you’re looking for a fruity alternative to your classic creamy vegan protein shake, then the Clear Vegan Protein supplement could well be a great choice for you.

Anything Else To Bear In Mind?

As is the case with all supplements, it’s always best to ensure that your diet and exercise regimen are on point before thinking of trying any new products.

Food supplements are not intended to replace a varied, balanced diet and a healthy overall lifestyle.

Protein supplements are very popular because of the role that protein plays in contributing to the growth and maintenance of muscle mass.

But sticking to an excellent diet and pairing that with a good exercise plan and optimal recovery routine is probably more important than supplementing with anything.

As always, we recommend that you speak to your doctor before taking a new supplement or making any major lifestyle changes.

Conclusion – Our Final Thoughts

So, that brings us to the end of our Myprotein Clear Whey Protein review.

We’ve walked you through the key things you need to know about this unique protein powder supplement, including the ingredients, the taste and the price.

We also took a quick look at the vegan-friendly alternative to this supplement – the Clear Vegan Protein from Myprotein.

All in all, we were highly impressed by this product. The flavour and nutritional values are solid and it’s reasonably priced.

If we were being picky, we would swap out the Sucralose for a sweetener which is a bit more natural, but overall this is a standout supplement in what is a notoriously crowded market.
