Using a trusted brand is essential when preparing for a marathon.

In 2016, I ran the London marathon in the New Balance Fresh Foam 1080 v6 and they were some fine wheels, with the fresh foam technology cushioning the shock of the pounding pavements on my poor knees.

Fast forward two years and I’ve signed up to run the Brighton marathon. Knowing that my previous New Balances were the real deal, it was an easy decision to get hold of the Fresh Foam 1080 v8.

They feel a bit more structured, the ankle is well supported as your foot feels extra-snug out jogging.

Despite the altering conditions in London, the trainers are supremely comfortable and durable as the miles keep topping up.

With the road-ready grip, (hopefully) running at speed, you feel agile and able to change direction at will. The meshing over foot keeps the foot ventilated. The key to the success of this trainer is whatever the terrain you still maintain that comfort.

My 1080 v8s are decked out in ‘Pacific with Black & Maldives Blue’ (pictured above) -it’s an eye-catching, yet versatile look. They’ll suit your running gear and are up to task for extra comfort strolling around town.

£125 is a lot of money, but it is vital when running such distances to prevent injuries and to keep your legs in fine fettle.

If you’re a runner who wants to put in some serious training then search no further. The trainers looking so striking is just the cherry on top.
