The talented 24-year-old is a product of Liverpool FC’s youth system and he came through the ranks at the Merseyside club before breaking into the first team.
He made his competitive senior debut for Liverpool FC in October 2016 in the League Cup and scored his first goal for the Reds in a Champions League play-off win in August 2017.
Alexander-Arnold then continued to impress and quickly established himself as a key figure in the Liverpool FC first team.
He has represented England at various youth levels and made his senior international debut for the Three Lions in June 2018 and has been a regular fixture in the side since then.
So, what do we know about Trent’s journey to becoming the talented full-back he is today? This is his story.
Early Life, Parents And Upbringing
Trent Alexander-Arnold (full name: Trent John Alexander-Arnold) was born on 7 October 1998 in Liverpool, England, to parents Michael Arnold and Dianne Alexander.
Trent has an older brother Tyler, who acts as his agent, and Marcel, who is three years younger than him.
He attended St Matthew’s Catholic Primary School, before later moving to private school St Mary’s in Crosby.

When he was six years old, Trent was spotted by Liverpool FC coach Ian Barrigan, who then approached his parents with the offer of a move to the club’s academy. He began training with the academy two to three times per week and quickly made his way through the ranks.
Trent has explained how he was lucky to be given the chance to attend a half-term camp hosted by Liverpool FC, which led to him being offered the chance to join the Merseyside club’s academy.
“I think it was a half-term camp,” Trent explained in an interview with The Athletic back in 2019. I was six years old. Everyone wanted to go but there weren’t enough spaces, only six or seven. Luckily, my name was one of those that got pulled out.
“I went along the following week and after the first day the scouts and the coaches approached my mum and asked if I could go up there to train and play in a few games. From that day onwards I’ve been a Liverpool player. I always loved Liverpool.”
Aged 14, Trent left St Mary’s to join Rainhill High School, which shares an affiliation with Liverpool FC.
Trent initially started as a winger, having also previously played in central midfield, but transitioned towards becoming a right-back during his time at the academy, making the switch when he was 17 years old. Part of the reason behind the change of position was that the right-back role offered him a clearer route into the first team at Anfield.
Trent has revealed that he was brought up as a Liverpool FC fan and was inspired by the club’s Champions League run in 2005.
“I was brought up in a family of Reds, believing that Liverpool were always the best,” Trent told The Athletic. “Going along to a few games as a kid with my brothers and my mum and seeing Champions League games like the quarter-final against Juventus back in 2005 was the best experience for me. I wanted to be part of nights like that.”
Liverpool FC
After being fast-tracked through Liverpool FC’s youth system, Trent made his senior debut for the Merseyside club against Tottenham Hotspur in the League Cup fourth round on 25 October 2016. Trent started the game and played 68 minutes before being substituted.
On 8 November 2016, Trent was rewarded with a new long-term contract at Liverpool FC under Jurgen Klopp, with the right-back penning a new deal alongside fellow youngsters Kevin Stewart and Ben Woodburn.

Speaking after the announcement of Alexander-Arnold’s new contract, Klopp said: “Trent spends most of his time with the first team in this moment and is progressing each and every day.”
Alexander-Arnold made his Premier League debut for Liverpool FC on 14 December 2016, coming on as a late substitute in a 3–0 win over Middlesbrough. He then made his first Premier League start for Liverpool FC in a 1-1 draw with Manchester United on 15 January 2017, with Alexander-Arnold playing the full 90 minutes.
He made a total of 12 appearances in all competitions for the Reds in the 2016-17 season and was voted as the club’s Young Player of the Season.
Trent scored his first competitive goal for the Liverpool FC first team when he netted a free-kick in a 2–1 Champions League play-off round win over Hoffenheim on 15 August 2017.
He netted his first Premier League goal for Liverpool FC in a 5-0 thrashing of Swansea City at Anfield on 26 December 2017.
Trent won his first major trophy as a Liverpool FC player after establishing himself as a regular starter in the team in the 2018-19 season, helping Jurgen Klopp’s men to win the Champions League.
Alexander-Arnold started and played the full 90 minutes in the 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League final on 1 June 2019.
He continued his fine form in the 2019-20 campaign as Liverpool FC’s first-choice right-back, scoring four goals and making 13 assists in 38 games to help the Reds win the Premier League title for the first time in their history, despite the season being disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic.

In the 2020-21 season, Trent scored two goals and made seven assists in 36 Premier League games as Jurgen Klopp’s men finished in third place in the table.
Alexander-Arnold was rewarded for his fine form in July 2021, when he signed a new long-term contract with the Merseyside outfit, keeping him at the club until at least 2025, believed to be worth around £180,000 per week.
Speaking after penning his new deal, Trent said: “I’m honoured to be given the opportunity and to be shown the trust in the club to be given an extension, so it was a no-brainer for me.
“It’s the only club I’ve ever really known, so to be here for this amount of time and extending to be here for a longer amount of time is amazing for me and my family.
“It’s a proud moment for me – it always is – signing a new contract here. To be given the trust, like I said before, by the club and the staff is an amazing feeling.”
International Career
Alexander-Arnold represented England at Under-16, Under-17, Under-18, Under-19 and Under-21 level.
He made his first senior England appearance on 7 June 2018, when he started a friendly against Costa Rica at Elland Road.
Trent was named in the squad for England’s Euro 2020 campaign but had to withdraw before the tournament began due to a thigh injury.
Life Away From The Pitch
Alexander-Arnold is an avid chess player and took on Norwegian world champion Magnus Carlsen in a PR-arranged display game in October 2018.
“You could link football to chess in terms of trying to think one, two or three moves ahead of the opposition and anticipate what they’ll do,” Trent explains. “You have to think ahead and know what you’re kind of going to do before you receive the ball.”

England legend Gary Lineker described Trent as the best attacking right-back in world football after he was ruled out of Euro 2020 due to injury:
Former England and Manchester United full-back Gary Neville on Trent’s talent, speaking in December 2021: “Alexander-Arnold is an absolute phenomenon when it comes to the quality of his passing, his delivery. It’s something I’ve never seen before from a full-back.
“It’s like Kevin De Bruyne, it’s David Beckham, it’s Steven Gerrard, and they’re attacking players. He’s playing at right-back, it’s the highest accolade I could pay him.”
England and Reds legend Michael Owen, reacting to Trent’s performance in Liverpool FC’s goalless draw with Real Madrid in the Champions League in April 2021: “[Trent] gets forward, he makes late runs, he can hit it across with his left and right foot.
