The 23-year-old tennis player enjoyed a strong junior career, reaching the semi-finals of the junior French Open and winning the junior Wimbledon title back in 2017.
Born to a Swedish-Russian father and a Russian mother, Davidovich Fokina made his ATP main draw debut back in April 2019 at the Grand Prix Hassan II.
He enjoyed something of a breakthrough year in 2020, when he reached the fourth round of the US Open after having reached the second rounds of both the Australian Open and French Open in the same year.
Davidovich Fokina then made it to the quarter-finals of the French Open in 2021, where he lost to Alexander Zverev of Germany in straight sets.
In April 2022, he reached his first ATP Masters 1000 final in Monte Carlo, where he lost in straight sets to Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Early Life, Parents And Upbringing
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina was born on 5 June 1999 in Malaga, Spain. His father, Eduard Mark Davidovich, is Swedish-Russian, and his mother, Tatiana Fokina, is Russian.
His father is a former boxer, and he has a brother named Mark. He began playing tennis with his father when he was just two-and-a-half years old.
He first trained at La Cala del Moral in Malaga with coach Manolo Rubiales before linking up with coach Jorge Aguirre at Racket Club Fuengirola when he was 11 years old.
When he was 16 years old, he left home to continue developing as a tennis player. Davidovich Fokina says he is inspired by Roger Federer, but concedes that his game is more similar to that of Novak Djokovic.
Speaking about his overall playing style, Davidovich Fokina said in 2020: “I consider myself a very aggressive player, although now I try to be more consistent and not as frantic as before. I’m not as excitable. I have my crazy side of course, but we’re working to calm that down on court.”

His favourite shot is backhand, his preferred surface is grass – and his favourite tournament is Wimbledon.
Junior Career
Davidovich Fokina enjoyed a strong junior career and made it all the way up to number two in the junior world rankings.
His top triumphs as a junior came at the French Open and Wimbledon. He reached the junior French Open semi-finals in 2017, and then won the Wimbledon 2017 boys’ singles title, defeating Axel Geller of Argentina in the final.
Davidovich Fokina best year as a junior was in 2017, when he posted an impressive 20-1 overall record, a win rate of 95 per cent.
Rise Up The Rankings
Davidovich Fokina made his ATP main draw debut at the Grand Prix Hassan II in April 2019, where he came through qualifying before losing to Philipp Kohlschreiber in straight sets.
He then came through qualifying and reached the semi-finals of the Estoril Open, where he lost to
Pablo Cuevas in three sets.
Davidovich Fokina enjoyed a breakthrough year in 2020. He made it through to the fourth round of the US Open in New York, losing to Alexander Zverev in three sets. In the same year, he also reached the second rounds of both the Australian Open and French Open.

The Spaniard continued his promising progress in 2021 and reached the quarter-finals of the French Open, where he once again lost to Alexander Zverev.
Davidovich Fokina made further progress in 2022, and reached his first ATP Masters 1000 final in Monte Carlo, knocking out Novak Djokovic en route to setting up a showdown with Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final. He ended up losing to the Greek man in straight sets.
Earnings And Prize Money
Davidovich Fokina has earned a total of US$ 2,970,485 in prize money combined for both singles and doubles, as of June 2022.
He pocketed a cheque worth $496,613 when he ended up as a runner-up at the 2022 Monte Carlo Masters.
Life Away From The Court
Davidovich Fokina is an animal lover who owns two cats. In April 2021, he launched Adoptas.org, a pet adoption platform that aims to connect anyone looking to adopt or foster a pet with shelters and rescues across Spain.
“[I’ve loved animals] since I was little, even though I was not allowed to have pets as a child because my mom thought they gave me allergies,” Davidovich Fokina explains. “After school, I used to play for hours with a dog that would come up to my door, and I would pet her.

“Whenever I see a stray animal, I go to the store and get something to feed it. And if it’s in bad shape, I call a shelter. Pets are not stuffed toys and they should not be mistreated. I have two cats and they are like my children to me, it would never occur to me to abandon them or mistreat them.”
Davidovich Fokina enjoys watching football and his favourite team is Real Madrid. His favourite movie is Creed II and his favourite actor is Sylvester Stallone.
He enjoys cooking and favourite food is cheesecake. His favourite book is Open by Andre Agassi.
Davidovich Fokina says that that his best quality is sensibility, and his worst quality is impatience.
Asked what his favourite city on the tour is, he replied: “I love Brisbane in Australia. I love it. When I went there was like an artificial beach in the middle of the city and I loved that.”
Davidovich Fokina also says that he wants to travel to Mexico one day. “I want to go to Mexico, I’ve never been there,” he said. “They told me that it’s a very good [place]. I went last year or two years ago to Punta Cana, and the beach and parties and everything there were so good.”

Stefanos Tsitsipas, speaking after beating Davidovich Fokina in the 2022 Monte Carlo Masters final: “He was a difficult opponent. He fought in moments I didn’t expect him to fight. He can hit incredible winners out of nowhere and play unpredictably. But I was able to minimise that. I knew he would be a dangerous opponent but that is a great win for me. I think we will see great results from him in the future.”
Davidovich Fokina’s coach Jorge Aguirre, speaking about the tennis player in 2021: “Alex is a 21-year-old player who is like a wild horse, pure energy and sometimes he wants things to happen too quickly. At the beginning, I don’t think I played that well. [Davidovich Fokina] has improved a lot over the past 18 months and has climbed up the rankings. I think I will play him a lot in the future.”
