The Senegalese defender made just one cameo appearance for Chelsea FC, which came in the League Cup in added time. He failed to make an impression on then Chelsea FC manager Jose Mourinho, and was sent on loan just three months into his Stamford Bridge career to Werder Bremen. A change in manager at Chelsea FC did not help his cause either.
