We all care about our pets living a happy and healthy life.

We make sure they’re full vaccinated with annual trips to the vet, provide ample toys for their entertainment and many are protected with insurance should the unthinkable happen.

But have you ever considered whether you are using healthy dog food or healthy cat food? Many of us feed our pets kibble and wet food without really considering the potential negative impact such meals could have.

NomNomNow are a California-based start-up that are providing human-grade meals with the freshest, restaurant-quality ingredients for our canine and feline companions.

It is veterinarian formulated to provide your cat or dog with homemade real food to boost their mood, bolster their immune system, achiever a shinier coat, find a healthier weight and give them more energy.

What’s more, NomNomNow tailor their cooked dog/cat food to your pet’s specific needs, whether they’re looking to gain weight or shed some pounds.

NomNomNow’s homemade real food is delivered to your doorstep and the dog/cat food delivery occurs weekly, bi-weekly or monthly depending on your subscription.

NomNomNow – Introduction

NomNomNow prepare their meals in a human-grade kitchen in San Francisco, USA. The meals are prepared by hand to ensure each portion meets their high standards. Not only that, all the ingredients are sourced within USA and meet the FDA’s requirements.

What you need to know about NomNomNow’s ingredients

NomNomNow offer four fresh dog recipes and two cat recipes, which should help to satisfy even the most fussy of eaters.

Reassuringly, NomNomNow use fresh meat and vegetables, while the cooked dog meals contain healthy oils and natural vitamins. Abiding by their better food, better health philosophy, Nom Nom Now’s vitamins are all natural and non-synthetic.

The recipes all contain the NomNomNutrient mix, which is what differentiates a cooked dog meal from a veterinary-formulated recipe. It contains vital minerals and vitamins to ensure your cat or dog gets food rich in nutrients.

NomNomNow tailor this NomNomNutrient Mix for each recipe, while taking into account the different life stages of your canine or feline companion.

There are no artificial ingredients used in this mix, they’re all natural.

NomNomNow have recruited respected veterinary nutritionist, Dr Justin Shmalbeg, to help formulate their innovate recipes. He is a board-certified specialist in both the American College of Veterinary Nutrition (ACVN) and in the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation (ACVSMR).

While NomNomNow don’t customise their fresh dog food, Dr. Shmalberg can advise on your pet’s health conditions and history to suggest an appropriate recipe for your dog’s needs.

How do you prepare NomNomNow meals?

Preparing your pet’s NomNomNow meal is simple.

The dog food delivery is comprised of packets of food.

You may want to consider running warm water over the packet for 10 seconds before serving.

Each meal pack is an easy to rip container to ensure no fussing round with scissors.

It couldn’t be easier.

NomNomNow price and delivery

NomNomNow offer pet owners interested in feeding their pets natural meals the chance to sample all four of their dog recipes (and two cat recipes).

This will ensure your pet is happy with their fresh cat/dog food. For dogs, it could be pork, chicken, beef or turkey. Cats have a selection of chicken or fish.

NomNomNow calculate the price of their meals based upon your cat or dog’s age and weight as well as activity level. The recipes do differ in price.

For example, my two Alaskan Klee Kai dogs vary in age and weight. Skye, black and white, is 14 months and weighs just under 12lbs. Her younger brother Copper, red and white, is little over 10lbs. Their cooked dog food vary slightly in size, with Copper receiving a little more than his older sibling. NomNomNow took into consideration their weight goals to ensure both Skye and Copper continued their natural development.

The Sport Review can offer our readers 50 per cent off your first Nom Nom Now order, just follow this link.

The California-based company offer a Care-grade guarantee.

If new customers don’t see the difference that NomNomNow’s fresh diet can make within 30 days of starting the meal plan, NomNomNow will buy your next pet’s order to the value of $40.

Another thing to consider is the frequency of delivery.

NomNomNow can provide a weekly delivery comprised of 14 meal packs, which your cat or dog are fed twice daily. Alternatively, you can receive the homemade real food twice a month or monthly.

NomNomNow reviews – What are customers saying?

James of St Augistine, Florida:

“I can’t say enough how much we love this food. My dog can’t wait to eat every day. After months of being on the food, his coat is shinier, he is more active, and overall noticeably happier. I have not had any issues with shipping with NomNomNow as I previously had with other companies. The food is delivered on time, always cold and fresh. Also, the thought they put into the packaging is great. The pouches are super convenient and fit nicely in my refrigerator. I’m so glad we found out about NomNomNow. The customer service is outstanding. The follow up emails and calls are an excellent touch and let us know we had chosen the right company for our dog’s food needs.”

Terrie of New Braunfels, Texas:

“I had a hard time feeding my “picky eater” Boston Terrier. I was spending so much money each month trying to find that “right food” that she would eat. While searching online I came across NomNomNow and after reading the ingredients I just had to see if my little Dot would eat this food. SHE LOVES IT! And I am spending less money each month! Win/Win and I give NomNomNow FIVE STARS!”

Lauren of Atlanta, Georgia:

“I have been impressed since day one with this company. My picky pups LOVE the food and I can see their energy sustain. Coats are healthy and blood work from vet is good! The customer service is on point! So glad I chose this company for my pups. We love NomNomNow!”

Gundi of Walnut Creek, California:

“Since my dogs are eating NomNomNow, their digestive issues have resolved and they no longer struggle to keep their perfect weight. I know I feed my dogs real food, ingredients that I know and identify as actual food, not synthetic additives and flavorings. I appreciate the transparent packaging and because the food is pre-measured makes it every easy to feed the dogs by any member of the family.”

Any Negatives?

Photo: Nom Nom Now

NomNomNow’s freshly cooked dog and cat meals are quite expensive given they provide a premium and quality service. While we all want to feed our dogs and cats to have the healthiest possible diet, you may struggle to find room in your budget.

However, while NomNomNow’s meals do cost more than your bog-standard dog/cat kibble, these freshly prepared, home delivered recipes should be considered a long-term investment in the overall health and wellbeing of your canine and feline friends.

However, The Sport Review can offer our readers 50% off their first NomNomNow order simply by clicking on this link.

Unfortunately NomNomNow only deliver to 48 of USA’s 50 states (not Alaska and Hawaii). For those from further afield who are interested in their home cooked meals, you will have to wait before trying NomNomNow.

Conclusion – Our final verdict

For those looking for peace of mind that their cat or dog is eating the highest quality ingredients, choose NomNomNow. They will ensure your pet has a strong immune system to protect against potential illnesses. Their carefully designed recipes will increase the energy levels of your canine or feline pets ensuring they remained fuel for adventures around the house or long walks in lush countryside.

My experience with NomNomNow has been overwhelmingly positive. My two dogs, Copper and Skye, have gained vital pounds and have noticeably more energy for our daily walks.

Having previously fed them kibble without a problem, Skye and Copper stopped eating after a brief illness. They showed an interest in air-dried meat but after a couple of weeks, Skye and Copper started to leave most of their meals in the bowl.

Our vet was unhappy with the size of both pups and suggested a number of different options to help them to put on weight. It was at this point that a serendipitous meeting with a fellow dog owner at our local dog park led us to NomNomNow. We haven’t looked back since our first delivery.

Skye and Copper love their Hearty Beef Mash. The days of picking at their food are over as both race to finish their dog bowls before an optimistic glance to their sibling in the hope of finding some leftovers. Both are left disappointed.

Crucially, Copper and Skye have both gained over a pound since starting NomNomNow’s healthy dog food two months ago. Our Alaskan Klee Kai pups have returned to their happy, energetic selves, hiking around the hills of California.

The ease of having my pets’ meals freshly prepared and delivered right to my doorstep has made life that little bit easier. I no longer spend my evenings cooking rice and chicken or warming up some gravy to add flavour to their bland kibble meals. I know their diet is in good hands thanks to NomNomNow.

This page loaded pretty quickly, didn’t it?

UPDATE: We’ve recently written an in-depth Kinsta Review on our sister site HumanWindow. Be sure to check it our for the full lowdown on our experience with Kinsta.

The main issue when running a large-scale website handling hundreds of thousands of daily visits is reliability – and that’s one of the primary reasons The Sport Review recently moved to Kinsta’s managed WordPress hosting service.

Since 2008, The Sport Review has grown from a little-known blog to a reputable sports news website handling more than two million unique users per month and many more pageviews.

With more than 80 per cent of our traffic coming from mobile devices, site speed and reliability are crucial for us.

Scaling WordPress is no easy task and it usually requires an in-depth knowledge of the platform, not to mention some tailored server and database level configurations.

Time for a change

We chose to switch to Kinsta after realising it was time to move the website onto a platform built for scale and using the latest web technology.

We had faced a number of recurring issues with our old host and despite not having suffered any catastrophic setbacks, there was a sense that it was only a matter of time before something went horribly wrong.

We had been renting a Virtual Private Server since 2011 and it had actually been running pretty smoothly in terms of coping with our large levels of traffic.

But it all felt a little bit out-dated in 2017 and with it being not specific to WordPress, we felt it was time to move onto a more professional platform to help support our lofty ambitions for the website.

We needed a setup able to handle thousands of concurrent connections in the front-end and continuous updates to content in the back-end.

More than 80 per cent of The Sport Review’s traffic is now mobile

We did some research and were drawn towards Kinsta for a number of reasons, not least because they are the first WordPress host to build their platform exclusively on the Google Cloud Platform.

The move to Kinsta

With an archive of more than 65,000 posts, we were expecting the migration to Kinsta to take some time, but we were up and running within a couple of hours – and with no downtime.

The excellent support team also patiently helped us iron out a few teething issues following the migration, and made site-specific tweaks to our server configuration and caching system.

These included converting the database storage engine from MyISAM to InnoDB, and moving the site from PHP 5.6 engine to PHP 7.

We love that Kinsta is WordPress-only. It means we have faith that the support we receive will be tailored to problems with our specific platform, which wasn’t the case previously.

It’s fair to say that the speed of everything pretty much doubled after the migration, from loading and publishing posts in the back-end, to all front-end requests.

So, if you’re looking for reliable managed WordPress hosting with great support, look no further than Kinsta.

We caught up with former England international goalkeeper David James to discuss the forthcoming round of Champions League games, Tottenham’s title hopes, Arsenal’s form and Liverpool’s goalkeeping situation.

On Arsenal’s start to the season…

“It’s obviously not a very nice thing [to say], especially if you’re an Arsenal fan, but I always expect Arsenal to finish second, third or fourth, so it doesn’t really matter what happens between the start of the season and the end does it? They’ll have a very good spell and a very bad spell.”

On Arsene Wenger playing David Ospina ahead of Petr Cech in the Champions League…

“The answer has to be based on what I would do in a manager’s capacity rather than saying if it’s right or wrong without having had that experience. Managing out in India I changed my goalkeepers about – granted, that wasn’t in different competitions, but I would be prepared to do it within a league season, let alone just for cup competitions. Providing your goalkeepers are capable – and Ospina proved himself to be capable before Petr Cech was there – then I don’t see what the worry is.

“The biggest question is, were Arsenal to progress to the semi-finals and even the final, would he [Wenger] maintain that rule? At the moment, I don’t see a problem with it at all. Ospina’s decent, Cech is better but you expect Arsenal to get through the group stage – and the quality of Ospina should be good enough to help them do that.”

On Tottenham’s title hopes…

“I was impressed with their English contingent last season but I was concerned at the end of the season because the team seemed to melt a bit. Obviously that experience will turn them into a much more formidable side this season. I still want Liverpool to win the league, don’t get me wrong, but I do like what Tottenham are doing. If they can learn from the meltdown [at the end of last season] and understand how to deal with that kind of pressure, then why not? Why can’t they be up there challenging?

“In my Liverpool days we were in a similar position in a two-horse race with Manchester United towards the end of the season and finished third. With Tottenham, if they can learn [from last season], then why shouldn’t they be up there challenging?”

On the goalkeeping situation at Liverpool…

“It’s interesting, because there seems to be a lot of belief that Loris Karius was brought in as a number one goalkeeper and the only reason why he didn’t start the season was because he got injured in pre-season. That wasn’t the case. Karius was brought in as a direct competitor for the position but there was no guarantee that he was going to start the season.

“For Jurgen Klopp to make the decision to play in him in the last three matches… he’s done that with every position since he’s been there. I don’t think anyone has started every game and had any given right to be the number one pick in any position. It gives Karius some confidence [but] I think the two of them will play a more shared number of games over the course of the season.”

On Liverpool’s hopes for the season…

“I think this year is the one great opportunity for the team to 100 per cent [focus] on the league, to try and win the league. Champions League next season? We’ll worry about that if it happens but this could be their year.”
