Born in Prague in 2005, Fruhvirtova made her main-draw Grand Slam debut as a 17-year-old at the 2022 US Open when she came through qualifying in New York.

Fruhvirtova, whose younger sister Brenda is also a tennis player, was a strong junior player and won five junior titles, peaking at number two in the junior world singles rankings in December 2021.

She made her WTA Tour main-draw debut in August 2020 at the Prague Open after being handed a wildcard, before losing in the first round. Fruhvirtova went on to win her first WTA Tour match at the Charleston Open in April 2021.

In August 2022, Fruhvirtova qualified for the main draw of a grand slam for the first time in her career at the US Open in New York. She then won her first WTA Tour title at the Chennai Open in September 2022.

So, what do we know about Fruhvirtova’s journey to becoming the talented and promising tennis player she is today? This is her story.

Early Life, Family And Upbringing

Linda Fruhvirtova was born on 1 May 2005 in Prague, Czech Republic to parents Martina and Hynek. She has a younger sister, Brenda Fruhvirtova (born in 2007), who is also a professional tennis player.

The pair train with each other and have played doubles together. “We train together sometimes,” Linda said of her sister in 2022. “She’s obviously really good. We play doubles together. I just can’t wait till she’s playing these tournaments too and we can be here together and get these matches together. I think she’ll get here soon.”

Fruhvirtova began training at the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy, run by tennis coach Patrick Mouratoglou, when she was around 10 years old. She has also spent time training at the Evert Tennis Academy in Florida. Linda is represented by sports agency and management company IMG and her sponsors include Nike and Wilson.

Linda is aiming high in her tennis career. In March 2022, after having beaten world number 24 Elise Mertens at the Miami Open, she declared that her goal is to become world number one and compete for grand slam titles.

“I have always answered that I want to reach number one,” she said. “I want to win Grand Slam titles, which hasn’t changed. We always said that with my sister it’s my goal and, yeah, we just want to achieve that.”

Linda says she looked up to both Roger Federer and Serena Williams when she was growing up but insists she does not model her game to any other player.

“Roger Federer and Serena Williams are my favourite players, but I don’t model my game on anyone. I play the way I do,” she said in 2019.

Meanwhile, Linda’s father Hynek revealed that his two daughters helped to push each other to improve as they grew up playing tennis together.

“They had some intense battles growing up,” he said back in 2019. “The younger one always wants to beat the older one, who never wants to lose. They compete against each on court only and when they walk off court it is a different story. They motivate each other and are both really supportive of each other.”

Junior Career

Fruhvirtova was a strong junior player and achieved a career-high singles ranking of number two in the junior rankings in December 2021.

She won a total of five junior titles, four of which came in 2021. Her best result in singles at a grand slam at a junior came at Wimbledon in 2021, where she reached the semi-finals, losing to eventual champion Ane Mintegi Del Olmo of Spain in the last four.

She also won four junior doubles titles, two of which came playing with her sister Brenda in 2021.

WTA Tour and Grand Slam Debuts

Fruhvirtova made her WTA Tour main draw debut at the 2020 Prague Open. After being handed a wildcard into the main draw, she lost to compatriot Kristyna Pliskova in the first round.

She won her first WTA Tour singles match at the 2021 Charleston Open. After having been handed a wildcard into the main draw, she defeated France’s Alize Cornet (who retired in the third set) 6-2 6-7 4-4.

Linda then went on to reach the third round in Charleston with a straight-sets win over Emma Navarro, before losing to Astra Sharma of Australia.

In March 2022, Fruhvirtova overcame Danka Kovinic, Elise Mertens and Victoria Azarenka to reach the fourth round of the WTA 1000 Miami Open, before losing to fifth seed Paula Badosa in round four.

Speaking after beating Azarenka in the third round and becoming the youngest player to reach the round of 16 in Miami since Tatiana Golovin in 2004, Fruhvirtova said: “It’s what I’ve always dreamed of, playing on these big stadiums in front of so many people. It’s definitely a dream come true and I’m enjoying it.

Linda Fruhvirtova

“Playing against Vika was definitely cool. She was one of the players I grew up watching and she was definitely one of the players to look up to for me, so it was an honour to be on the court with her.

In August 2022, Linda came through three rounds of qualifying at the US Open to reach the main draw of a grand slam for the first time in her career.

First WTA Title

After losing to Garbine Muguruza in the second round of the US Open, Linda continued her progress following her impressive grand slam main-draw debut.

Later in September, she captured her first career WTA Tour title at the Chennai Open in India. She beat third seed Magda Linette of Poland 4-6 6-3 6-4, coming back from 4-1 down in the third set to win the match and the title.

“I was feeling good in my game, and I knew that I could do a good result here, but it was much better than we all probably expected,” Fruhvirtova said at her post-match press conference. “I’m pretty much in shock. It feels amazing, and I feel like it’s a great start for me to keep building on this.”

Life Away From The Court

Away from tennis Linda enjoys spending time with her sister Brenda and following other sports besides tennis.

“I love to spend time with my sister,” Linda said in 2022. “We go shopping sometimes. I don’t get much free time, but I like to follow some other sports, go to some games. For now, there is not much free time, but I just like to spend it with my family.”

What Have Others Said?

Tennis coach Patrick Mouratoglou, speaking about Fruhvirtova in April 2022: “A lot of players say they want to become world number one but only some players believe it deep inside and Linda is one of them. She wins because she’s just stepping in, stepping in, hitting, hitting, hitting until you crack. She has one main quality, which is the mental side. She’s an incredible competitor. She’s an incredible fighter.

“She’s feisty. She wants it so bad. She’s giving 100 per cent every time she’s stepping on the tennis court. This is all mental assets. I think mentally she has the full package. She has really really improved her game by moving closer and closer to the baseline and she’s able to move forward on every ball and give 100% power on every ball. If you look at her matches, she makes a very limited number of unforced errors which shows she has a lot of control. She is always reaching that limit, hitting the best shot she can hit but not making any errors.”

Chris Evert Linda Fruhvirtova tweet

Former world number one Chris Evert, posting on Twitter in April 2021: “Interesting to watch 15-year-old Fruhvirtova play Cornet tonight. She practiced at my Academy for a few weeks in January and was very impressive, playing sets with WTA pros and competing with them showing confidence and skill… She’s got it.”

Everything you would want in a footballer he was there, and to me, the best striker I played with because he did everything.”

Nadal is naturally right-handed but plays tennis with his left hand and initially played with a two-handed forehand before changing his technique when he was around nine years old.

The Spaniard won his first grand slam title at the French Open in 2005, a tournament he would later go on to dominate in the years to come.

He went on to win all of the grand slam tournaments more than once, claiming his first Wimbledon title in 2008 and winning the Australian Open and US Open for the first time in 2009 and 2010 respectively.

Nadal first earned the world number one ranking back in the summer of 2008, and he won Olympic singles gold at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Nadal has also won the season-ending ATP World Tour Finals twice in his career.

So, what do we know about Nadal’s journey to becoming the legendary tennis player he is known for being today? This is his story.

Early Life, Parents And Upbringing

Rafael Nadal (full name: Rafael Nadal Parera) was born on 3 June 1986 in Manacor, Mallorca, Spain, to parents Ana Maria and Sebastian. He has a younger sister named Maria Isabel.

Nadal’s father is a businessman, and among his businesses are the family-owned Sa Punta restaurant and the Vidres Mallorca glass-and-windows company. His uncle, Miguel Angel Nadal, is a former professional footballer, who played for Mallorca, FC Barcelona and the Spanish national team.

Nadal was first introduced to tennis by his uncle Toni when he was three years old and started playing the sport when he was around four years old.

Toni Nadal initially encouraged Rafael to play tennis for fun alongside his football practice. When he was just starting out, Nadal admits that he initially preferred playing football.

“I carried on playing football as well as tennis, but slowly played more and more tennis with my uncle,” Nadal said in an interview with The Times in 2006. “But I still preferred football. That was my real love when I was a young boy.”

Nadal was eight years old when he won the regional tennis championships for under-12s. “That’s when people started to say maybe I could make it to the top in tennis,” he said.

Toni Nadal then began to work more seriously with Rafael and encouraged him to start playing with his left hand, even though he is naturally right-handed. “He noticed that I was playing forehand shots with two hands, so one day he told me to try with one hand,” said Nadal in the same interview with The Times. “I used my left foot in football, so he thought I should try that. I did. It worked.”

It was when he was around 12 years old that Nadal had to make a final choice between football and tennis. His father, Sebastian, wanted him to choose one of the sports to focus on so that his schoolwork didn’t suffer. “My father made me choose between football and tennis so my school work didn’t suffer,” Nadal revealed. “I chose tennis. Football had to stop straight away.

Nadal also competed for Spain in the 2002 Junior Davis Cup Final, winning all five of his matches to help his country claim victory.

Nadal’s highest ranking as a junior player was number 145 in the world in December 2002.

Pro Career

In April 2002, Nadal won his first ATP Tour match on home soil in Mallorca, beating Ramon Delgado in straight sets after having been handed a wildcard into the main draw. He then lost to Olivier Rochus of Belgium in the second round.

He continued to make steady progress, initially mainly playing Futures and Challenger tournaments as he made his way up the rankings.

Nadal enjoyed something of a breakthrough in the spring of 2003 at the Monte Carlo Masters. He came through two rounds of qualifying to reach the main draw, where he beat Karol Kucera and Albert Costa to reach the third round, where he lost to Guillermo Coria of Argentina.

His improved ranking earned him a direct entry to the main draw of Wimbledon in 2003, and he beat Mario Ancic and Lee Childs to reach the third round, becoming the youngest man to reach that stage at SW19 since Boris Becker in 1984. In the third round, he lost to Paradorn Srichaphan.

Nadal won his first ATP Tour singles title in August 2004 at the Prokom Open in Sopot, Poland. He defeated Argentina’s Jose Acasuso in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 to claim the trophy.

Nadal then tasted grand slam glory for the first time in his career at the 2005 French Open when he was 19 years old. After having won the Monte Carlo Masters, the Barcelona Open and the Rome Masters in the lead-up to the tournament, Nadal beat the likes of Richard Gasquet and Roger Federer to reach the French Open final, where he defeated Mariano Puerta of Argentina in straight sets.

“It’s incredible to win at Roland Garros,” said Nadal afterwards. “It’s a dream come true to win on my first appearance here. Mariano was my toughest opponent in the two weeks. It was a great final.”

Nadal went on to establish himself as one of men’s tennis’ top players and won the French Open in 2006, 2007 and 2008. His first grand slam title away from Paris came at Wimbledon in 2008, when he defeated Roger Federer in what is regarded as one of the greatest tennis matches of all time.

Nadal triumphed 6-4 6-4 6-7 (5-7) 6-7 (8-10) 9-7 over Federer in a dramatic and rain-interrupted match to claim his first grand slam title away from Roland Garros. “It’s impossible to explain what I felt in that moment but I’m very, very happy,” said Nadal after that epic match. It is a dream to play on this court, my favourite tournament, but to win I never imagined.” Nadal took the world number one ranking for the first time in his career in the summer of 2008.

After having claimed singles gold at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Nadal won the Australian Open for the first time in 2009 and claimed his first title at the US Open in 2010. He also won his first ATP World Tour Finals title in 2010.

At the time of writing, Nadal has won a total of 22 grand slam singles titles, which is an all-time record. He is also one of only two men to have completed the career ‘Golden Slam’ in singles.

Rafael Nadal Net Worth, Prize Money And Career Earnings

As is the case with most sports stars and celebrities, there is no ‘official’ number for Rafael Nadal’s net worth available. However, a number of publications have attempted to make educated guesses as to the amount over the years.

In 2022, celebritynetworth.com estimated that Rafael Nadal’s net worth stood at around $220m (£183m). Wealthygorilla.com estimated the same figure at the time of writing.

Although the precise figure of Rafael Nadal’s net worth may not be known, there are some numbers that we can be 100 per cent sure of.

Rafael Nadal

For example, we know that, as of August 2022, Nadal has earned a total of $131,338,131 (£108.9m) in total prize money (combined for both singles and doubles) from playing tennis. At the time of writing, this placed him at number two behind Novak Djokovic in the list of the highest-earning men’s tennis players of all time.

Meanwhile, in 2022, Forbes estimated that Nadal had pocketed a total of around $500m (before taxes and agents’ fees) in career earnings, from both prize money and endorsements, during his career up until that point.

In 2020, Forbes also estimated that Nadal had earned $40m (£33.1m) in a 12-month period. Of that figure, $14m (£11.6m) was said to have come from prize money and the remaining $26m (£21.6m) came from sponsorships and endorsements.

Life Away From The Court

Rafael Nadal’s wife is Maria Francisca Perello. The couple began dating in 2005 and got married in October 2019.

Despite his stardom, it’s clear that Nadal likes to enjoy a simple life away from tennis, and speaking in an interview with The Times in 2006, he revealed that he only really has one goal in life.

“My goal in life when I was a young boy was to be happy,” said Nadal. “My goal now? To be happy. Nothing has changed. I have got better at tennis, but that is all. Nothing in me has changed. People think they will meet me and I will be a different person, but I won’t. I am the same. I still want nothing more than to be happy.”

Away from tennis, Nadal, who speaks Spanish, Balearic Catalan and English, enjoys playing both golf and poker.

In May 2016, Nadal launched the Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar, which combines high-level tennis with education and residency.

Nadal likes to spend his downtime on his home island of Mallorca. “I love to be in Mallorca,” he said. “I love to come back and to be with my friends, with my family, with all the people that I really love. I mean, it is something very important to maintain, close to me.”

What Have Others Said?

Roger Federer, speaking after losing to Nadal in the epic Wimbledon final in 2008: “I tried everything, got a little late, but look, Rafa is a deserving champion, he just played fantastic. The rain didn’t make it easier but you have to expect the worst and he’s the worst opponent on the best court. It’s a pity I couldn’t win it but I’ll be back next year.”

Daniil Medvedev, speaking after losing to Nadal in the 2022 Australian Open final: “If we talk about tennis, I’m not that disappointed. It was a huge match, for sure, and there were some small points, small details, that I could have done better if I wanted to win. But that’s tennis. That’s life. Rafa played unreal and raised his level. I mean, two sets to love up, I wanted just to go for him, go for more. He was really strong, the way he played for four hours, I was even surprised.”

The 35-year-old turned professional in 2003 and made an instant impact on the ATP Tour, winning his first pro title three years later in 2006 and breaking into the top 20 in the world rankings.

Djokovic first tasted grand slam glory at the 2008 Australian Open, when he beat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the final to claim his first major crown.

The Serb has gone on to win a staggering total of 21 grand slam singles titles to place him as one of the most successful men’s players in the Open era.

His success on the court has earned him vast amounts of money, with Djokovic having pocketed upwards of $150m in prize money since having started his professional playing career.

So, what do we know about Novak’s journey to becoming the legendary tennis player he’s now known for being? This is his story.

Early Life, Parents And Upbringing

Novak Djokovic was born on 22 May 1987 in Belgrade, Serbia to parents Srdan and Dijana. He has two younger brothers named Marko and Djordje who have also played professional tennis.

Djokovic’s father, uncle and aunt were professional skiers, and his dad Srdan initially wanted Novak to be a skier or a footballer when he was younger.

Djokovic began playing tennis when he was just four years old and idolised Pete Sampras from a young age. When he was growing up, he sometimes lived with his grandfather Vlada in Belgrade while his parents worked at pizzeria they owned in Kopaonik.

“I fell in love with [tennis] when I was four,” Djokovic said in an interview in 2022. “My dad bought me a tennis racquet and they were making three tennis courts in front of the restaurant which was run by my parents in a mountain resort in Serbia. We used to spend a lot of time there.

“My dad, my uncle and my aunt, they were all competitive skiers. My father used to play soccer as well. There is an athletic gene that runs in the family, so it’s no accident that I ended up playing sport. But it is a little bit odd that I started played tennis, which was quite unknown in my family. But I think it was a sign of a destiny – three tennis courts being built when I started watching tennis on the TV.”

Djokovic says that he fell “in love” with the sport when he was around seven years old. “When I was seven, I dreamed of winning Wimbledon and being the best in the world,” Djokovic said in 2021. “I fell in love with tennis, and I’m trying to play with the same love and passion today.”

When he was 12 years old, Djokovic moved to Germany to train at the Niki Pilic Academy in Munich. He trained there for around two years before then returning to Belgrade.

Junior Career

Djokovic was a decent junior player and peaked at number 24 in the world rankings in February 2004.

He won two junior titles, both in 2002, and finished his junior career with a 56/12 win/loss record.

His best showing at a junior grand slam tournament came when he reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open in 2004.

Professional Career

Djokovic turned professional in 2003 and made his first appearance in the main draw of a grand slam at the 2005 Australian Open. He came through qualifying in Melbourne to reach the first round, where he lost to Marat Safin in straight sets.

He won his first grand slam main-draw match at the 2005 French Open. He came through three rounds of qualifying and beat Robby Ginepri of the USA in the first round, before falling to Guillermo Coria in round two.

Djokovic then reached the third round of Wimbledon shortly after, again coming through qualifying and beating Juan Monaco and Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, before losing to Sebastien Grosjean of France in four sets.

Djokovic won his first ATP Tour title in 2006 at the Dutch Open in Amersfoort when he was 19 years old. He beat Nicolas Massu of Chile in the final to claim the trophy.

The Serb continued to make impressive progress – he claimed his first Masters title in Miami in 2007 – and his next major breakthrough came at the 2008 Australian Open.

Djokovic won his first grand slam singles title at the 2008 Australian Open. He beat the likes of Sam Querrey, Lleyton Hewitt, David Ferrer and Roger Federer to reach the final, where he defeated Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in four sets, 4-6 6-4 6-3 7-6 (7-2).

“I’m very, very happy that I won my first grand slam here,” Djokovic said afterwards. “I want to thank all the Serbian fans who came here to support me – I am so proud to be the first Serbian to win a Grand Slam title. You feel the expectations and pressure, so I’m very happy with the way I dealt with the pressure. Coming on against a player with nothing to lose – he was going for the shots and he was very dangerous, especially in the first set. I was pretty nervous.”

In the years that followed, Djokovic would go on to dominate the sport along with Roger Federer, Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal. His next grand slam title arrived in 2011 at the Australian Open, and he also won Wimbledon and the US Open for the first time in that same year.

Djokovic has gone on to win a total of 21 grand slam singles titles. His most successful major tournament is the Australian Open, where he has won a total of nine titles at the time of writing.

He first claimed the number one ranking in the world in July 2011, and has won the ATP World Tour Finals five times. Djokovic also won a bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Djokovic is multi-lingual and can speak Serbian, English, Italian, German and French.

What Have Others Said?

Nick Kyrgios, speaking after losing to Djokovic in the 2022 Wimbledon final: “He’s a bit of a god, I’m not going to lie. I thought I played well. It’s been an amazing couple of weeks for me personally. Really happy with this result, probably the best of my career and hopefully maybe one day I’ll be here again, but I don’t know about that.”

Daniil Medvedev, speaking after losing to Djokovic in he 2021 Australian Open final: “Congrats to Novak. Nine Slams in Australia is amazing and this won’t be your last one. Just to tell you a small story, I first met Novak when I was 500 or 600 in the world. I thought OK, he’s not going to speak to me, because he was world number one. I was really shy. He was talking to me like I was a friend. He’s never changed – he’s always been a great sport and a great friend.”

Rafael Nadal, speaking after losing to Djokovic in the 2021 French open semi-finals: “That’s sport, you know. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. I tried to give my best. Probably was not my best day out there. Even if I fought, that I put in a lot of effort, I mean, the position on the shots haven’t been that effective tonight. Against a player like him that takes the ball early, you are not able to take him out of his positions, then is very difficult. Well done to him. He beat me in a good fight out there. Today was not my day.”

The biggest bout of his boxing career came in 2021, when he took on former five-division world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. in an exhibition fight, which in the end had no official winner.

In April 2021, Paul made his wrestling debut with the WWE. In the summer of 2022, he signed a multi-event contract with the WWE.

So, what do we know about Logan Paul’s journey to becoming the popular influencer he is today? This is his story.

Early Life, Family And Early Career

Logan Paul (full name: Logan Alexander Paul) was born on 1 April 1995 in Westlake, Ohio, USA to parents Pam Stepnick and Gregory Paul. He has a younger brother named Jake.

He began making videos on social media from a young age, and in 2014, he dropped out of Ohio University and moved to Los Angeles. There, he moved into an apartment complex which housed six of the top 15 Vine stars in the world.

YouTube

After initially gaining most of his following through looping-video platform Vine, Paul switched over to focusing on YouTube as they hype around Vine died down (the platform was officially discontinued in 2016).

His following on YouTube skyrocketed in the following years and at the time of writing, he had 23.5m followers on the video platform.

In January 2018, Paul caused major controversy after he uploaded a video to YouTube of him encountering the body of a suicide victim in Aokigahara forest in Japan. Paul soon removed the video and apologised via his social media accounts, but faced wide criticism for posting the video.

Boxing

Like his younger brother Jake, Logan opted to pivot into boxing and in February 2018, it was announced that Paul would be fighting British YouTuber KSI. The fight, which took place in August 2018 at a sold-out Manchester Arena, ended as a majority draw, 57-57 on two scorecards, with the third judge scoring it 58-57 for KSI.

In September 2019, it was announced that Logan Paul would be making his professional boxing debut in in a six-round cruiserweight rematch against KSI, which would be broadcast exclusively on DAZN in the United States.

The fight took place in November 2019 ended in a victory for KSI via split decision. Two judges scored the fight 57-54 and 56-55 in favour of KSI, with one judging scoring it 56-55 in favour of Paul.

“Your boy has done it, I am victorious,” said KSI, whose real name is Olajide William “JJ” Olatunj. “I’m a dog, I keep saying it. I’m a fighter and I keep going!”

Logan Paul then made the headlines again in the boxing world in December 2020, when it was announced that he would be taking on former five-division world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. in an exhibition bout.

The fight took place on 6 June 2021 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, and had no official winner due to it being an exhibition bout.

“I don’t want anyone to tell me anything is impossible ever again,” Paul said after the fight. “The fact that I’m in here with one of the greatest boxers of all time proves the odds can be beat. It’s one of the greatest moments of my life.”

Paul then appeared to question how seriously Mayweather had taken the fight, adding: “I mean, you never know with this guy. I’m going to go home thinking, ‘Did Floyd let me survive?’ It’s an honor to grace the ring with him. This is the coolest thing ever.”

In 2022, Paul challenged Paddy Pimblett to fight in the UFC octagon. Paul said: “I think I might have him on my podcast and say to him straight up ‘I would like to fight you in the UFC’. He could get up to 185lbs and I could get down to 185lbs for a UFC match. It’s the only thing I don’t know if I would win, he is a good a** fighter and I have never had an MMA fight. If I am doing it obviously I think I am going to win.”

Wrestling

Paul made his WWE wrestling debut as a guest of Sami Zayn in April 2021, where he was invited to be ringside for his match at WrestleMania 37 against Kevin Owens.

Logan then joined a tag team with veteran wrestler The Miz when he made his ring debut at Wrestlemania 38 in April 2022. However, The Miz then turned on Logan – flooring him with his trademark Skull-Crushing Finale finisher – after the pair’s victory over father-son duo, The Mysterios.

In July 2022, it was announced that Paul had signed a contract with the WWE. At the time, Paul said: “The Miz is dead to me, he is my enemy, and I signed this contract so I could beat his ass at Summerslam.”

Net Worth, Wealth And Earnings

As is the case with most celebrities and sports stars, there is no ‘official’ figure available for Logan Paul’s net worth. That being said, a number of online publications have attempted to make estimates as to what the figure could be.

In 2022, website celebritynetworth.com estimated that Logan Paul’s net worth stood in the region of $45m (£36.9m). Another site, wealthygorilla.com, reported the same estimated number.

Meanwhile, in 2022, Forbes reported that Logan Paul had earned in the region of $18m in a year, placing him at number nine on the highest-earning YouTube stars in the world at the time.

After his exhibition fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr, it was reported that Logan Paul had earned around $14m (£10.6m) from the bout.

In addition to his social media videos, Paul also runs a lucrative apparel brand called ‘Maverick by Logan Paul’. In its first nine months of operation, Maverick reportedly generated more than $40m (£32.8m) in sales.

In 2021, Paul moved to Puerto Rico from Los Angeles, and it was reported that he was living in a mansion worth around $13m (£10.6m).

In the summer of 2022, it was announced that Arsenal Football Club had partnered with PRIME – the hydration drink founded by KSI and Logan Paul.

What Have Others Said?

Floyd Mayweather Jr, speaking after his fight against Logan Paul in June 2021: “I had fun, I’m not 21 anymore. He’s a great, young fighter, better than I thought he was. He’s a tough raw competitor, I was surprised by him tonight. I want to thank all the fans who came out, I want to thank the fans who bought pay per view.”

UFC star Paddy Pimblett, speaking about the prospect of a fight with Logan Paul in 2022: “I just started giggling [at Logan’s call out] because a couple of months ago he messaged me calling me a clout chaser. Who’s the clout chaser now son? Who’s clout chasing who? Everyone knows what I’d do to him. Like, he’s wrestled in high school. I have a Division One wrestler come over from the US who’s wrestled at 84kg out of North Carolina [called] Jason. He comes in and wrestles with me – I wrestle with better people. He wouldn’t be able to take me down, I’d put him on his back. This monkey thinks that he’ll be able to take me down. I wrestle with a better southpaw wrestler every day. I can’t wait to elbow his face in.”

Murray grew up in Dunblane, where he attended Dunblane Primary School, playing both football and tennis. He had a talent for both sports and was once offered a trial with Glasgow Rangers Football Club.

He started playing tennis at just three years old when he mother took him to play at some local courts.

Aged 17, he beat Sergiy Stakhovsky of Ukraine in the final 6-4 6-2 and said afterwards: “This is my favourite tournament and I would love to come back and win here as a senior. My long-term aim is to make the world’s top 10.”

Of the five junior titles he won, three were on hard courts, three were on clay courts and one was on carpet.

What Have Others Said?

Tim Henman, speaking after Andy Murray beat Novak Djokovic to win his first Wimbledon title in 2013: “I was privileged enough to go into the locker room straight after the match and Andy was basically in a state of shock. I just gave him a big hug when I got in there and said ‘I really don’t know how you did that’ and he said ‘nor do I’.”

Novak Djokovic, speaking after losing to Murray in the 2013 Wimbledon final: “The bottom line [is] he was the better player in decisive moments,” the Serb said. “He was getting some incredible points on the stretch, running down the drop shots all over the court. He played fantastic tennis, no question. I believed I could come back but it wasn’t my day.”

Milos Raonic, speaking after losing to Murray in the 2016 Wimbledon final: “He moves incredibly well, he returns well – those are his two biggest strengths, and he’s been playing well. Every time you play him, you know he’s going to get more returns back than anyone else, along with Novak.”

Lleyton Hewitt, speaking after losing to an 18-year-old Murray in the San Jose final in 2006: “He’s confident. And that’s what you need if you are going to break through on the tour at a young age. That’s why Rafael Nadal has done so well, because he’s confident and he won’t take a back seat to anyone. He never plays himself out of a point. He’s not going to go for too much or overplay. He makes you beat him.”

The 19-year-old was born in Gentofte, Denmark in 2003 and initially became interested in tennis from a young age after watching his older sister play the sport.

In his early years, he also played football (soccer) but turned his focus to tennis, preferring to compete in an individual sport. He began playing regularly with his sister and made impressive progress.

Rune was a strong junior player and achieved the number one world ranking in 2019, before turning professional in 2020.

Rune made his ATP Tour debut as a wildcard in the Argentina Open in March 2021. He won his first ATP Tour title in May 2022 in Munich and went on to reach his first grand slam quarter-final at the French Open.

So, what do we know about Rune’s journey to becoming the talented and promising tennis player he is today? This is his story.

Early Life, Family And Upbringing

Holger Rune (full name: Holger Vitus Nodskov Rune) was born on 29 April 2003 in Gentofte, Denmark to parents Aneke Rune and Anders Nodskov. He has an older sister named Alma.

“Holger is definitely a perfectionist,” his mother said in an 2022 interview. “He was a very happy kid – he still is.”

Rune played football (soccer) from an early age but he says that he switched his focus to tennis because he preferred the control of situations that playing an individual sport brought.

“Soccer was my first sport,” Rune said. “What I didn’t really like about soccer was that you were a team, because it was not all up to me. I like to be the only one on the court, to take control and the things I can do.”

He first became interested in playing tennis after watching his sister play the sport from a young age, with Holger having first started hitting balls when he was around six years old.

“I started playing when I was six years old, and it was with my sister,” says Rune. “That’s the first memory I have, playing with my sister in the club. We played with the soft balls, mini-tennis, and we had a lot of good fights together, tie-breaks and stuff.”

Playing together regularly, the siblings helped each other improve. “I think because we could play tennis together and because there is the gap of four years, it brought us really close,” explained Holger’s sister Alma in an interview with the Tennis Channel in March 2022.

“He naturally started playing more tennis. Every time he got close to me I took another development step up so we kept pushing each other. I think maybe around age 12 or 13, we were at the same level, and then after that, he began to beat me.”

Holger has admitted that having a hitting partner in the family helped him to hone his skills from an early age as the pair challenged and pushed each other to improve.

“To have my older sister playing tennis before me was incredible,” says Holger. “When we started, we played a lot together, in the mornings, evenings, whenever, because I wanted to play all the time. I got better, she got better, we were so good for each other.”

Holger began working with coach Lars Christensen when he was just over six years old, and it soon became clear that Rune had big aspirations for a career in the sport.

“I think he was around seven or eight years old when he announced that he wanted to be the best player in the world,” coach Christensen told the Tennis Channel. “He learned all the technical stuff and then I taught him everything about footwork and we’ve been growing together all the way through.”

Rune’s favourite shot is forehand, his top tournament is Roland Garros and preferred city on tour is Paris.

Junior Career

Rune was a strong junior player and peaked at number one in the world rankings in October 2019.

The crowning moment of his junior career came at the 2019 French Open, when he won the boys’ singles title in Paris, beating Toby Kodat in the final, 6–3, 6–7, 6–0.

In total, Rune won seven junior singles titles, six of which were on clay courts.

Turning Professional

Rune turned professional in 2020 when he was just 16 years old. He won his first ITF title at an M25 event in Switzerland in September 2020.

He made his ATP Tour main-draw debut at the Argentina Open in March 2021 after being handed a wildcard. He lost in the first round to Albert Ramos-Vinolas of Spain in three sets.

Rune then made impressive progress at the 2021 Chile Open shortly after. He was handed a wildcard into the qualifying draw and won three matches to reach the first round proper. There, he won his first ATP Tour main draw singles match, beating Sebastian Baez in straight sets. He then reached the third round by beating Benoit Paire, before losing to Federico Delbonis of Argentina in round three.

He made his grand slam main-draw debut at the 2021 US Open. After having been handed a wildcard into qualifying, he won all three of his matches to reach the main draw. In the first round, he lost to top seed Novak Djokovic.

His impressive form in 2021 helped him to break into the world’s top 100 for the first time in his career in January 2022.

After having come through qualifying to reach the second round of the 2022 Indian Wells Masters, where he lost to Matteo Berrettini, Rune also reached the second round of the Monte Carlo Masters, losing to Casper Ruud.

Rune won his first ATP Tour singles title at the Bavarian International Tennis Championships in Munich in May 2022.

After having been handed a wildcard into the main draw, Rune beat the likes of Alexander Zverev, Emil Ruusuvuori and Oscar Otte to reach the final. In the final, he overcame Botic Van de Zandschulp of the Netherlands, who retired during the first set with the score at 3-4.

Speaking after claiming the title, Rune said: “It means a lot. It was my ultimate goal for this year to be able to win my first ATP 250 title. It happened today and I’m super happy about that and excited about the future. This can only bring good things out of me and I’m going to stay working hard and just try to achieve more things.”

Rune then followed up his first title with the best run at a grand slam in his career up until that point at the 2022 French Open.

A direct entrant to the main draw at Roland Garros in Paris thanks to his ranking, Rune beat the likes of Denis Shapovalov, Henri Laaksonen and Stefanos Tsitsipas to reach the quarter-final of a grand slam for the first time in his career. In the quarter-finals, he lost to Norway’s Casper Ruud in four sets.

Earnings And Prize Money

As of August 2022, Holger Rune had earned a total of $1,264,700 in career prize money, combined for both singles and doubles.

Life Away From The Court

Away from tennis, Holger enjoys relaxing with activities such as watching other sports and seeing movies.

“I like sports in general, like football and basketball,” he says. “Honestly, I’m pretty lazy, so I like to watch a good movie and watch some Netflix.”

He enjoys juggling, a skill he says that he acquired from his coach Lars. “Actually my coach was in the circus,” said Rune. “He can do all these things, and he taught me how to do it. I can do it with three or four balls. I’m good at it, but not unbelievable!”

What Have Others Said?

Stefanos Tsitsipas, speaking after losing to Rune in the fourth round of the 2022 French Open: “[He is] very consistent, very precise. But he gets tight. When he gets down, he has his forehand [in] a very extreme grip, I don’t know about … anyway, he’s a grinder.”

The 32-year-old was born in Guadalajara, Mexico and he grew up on his family’s farm.

He started boxing when he was around 13 years old and turned professional just two years later, showing impressive promise as a youngster.

Since then, he has gone on to establish himself as boxing’s current global superstar, winning 57 of his 61 total fights, 39 by KO.

With Alvarez having developed into one of the sport’s great fighters, it’s no surprise that he is currently ranked as one of the highest-paid athletes on the planet. According to multiple sources online, Canelo’s net worth stood at roughly $180m in 2022.

So, what do we know about Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez’s journey to becoming the talented boxer he is today? This is his story.

Early Life, Family And Upbringing

Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez (full name: Santos Saul Alvarez Barragan) was born on 18 July 1990 in Guadalajara, Mexico, to parents Santos and Ana Maria. Canelo’s father owns three ice cream parlours, and his parents run a family farm.

Alvarez is the youngest of seven brothers, all of whom have boxed and were raised on their family’s farm. His brothers are named Ramon, Ricardo, Rigoberto, Gonzalo, Victor and Daniel.

Early Career

After showing a strong interest in boxing thanks to his brothers’ background in the sport, Alvarez dropped out of school to pursue a career as a fighter full time.

He won the silver medal at the Mexican Junior Championships and went on to win the gold the following year, at the age of 15.

He turned professional when he was just 15 years old and it is reported that in his first 19 professional months Alvarez fought 13 opponents who were all significantly older than him, and knocked out 11 of them. However, it has also been claimed that Alvarez also won 10 other pro fights that were undocumented.

Pro Career

Canelo went on to notch up an impressive record in the ring. He has won multiple world titles in four different weight classes – from light middleweight to light heavyweight. In the early years of his career, he beat the likes of Ryan Rhodes, Austin Trout and Shane Mosley.

His first defeat came at the hands of Floyd Mayweather in September 2013 in what was his 17th documented professional fight. The judges scored the fight 114-114, 116-112, 117-111, leaving Mayweather to pocket upwards of $45m (£26.1m) for his efforts, with the fight going down as the most lucrative pay-per-view show in history at the time.

Speaking after losing to Mayweather, Alvarez – who was undefeated in his 43 previous fights – said: “He’s a great fighter. He’s very experienced, very intelligent, very elusive, it’s as simple as that. The frustration was getting to me. I just didn’t know how to catch him.”

Alvarez suffered only the second loss of his career in May 2022 in a surprise defeat by Russia’s Dmitry Bivol in Las Vegas. He had stepped up in weight to light-heavyweight for the bout.

“You have to accept it, it’s boxing,” Alvarez said afterwards. “He’s a great champion. Sometimes in boxing you win and lose and I’m not giving excuses. I lost and he won.”

Net Worth, Earnings And Salary

Unsurprisingly, Canelo’s success in the ring has earned him impressive amounts of money during his career, from both salary and endorsements.

However, as is the case with most sports stars and celebrities, there is no ‘official’ figure for Canelo’s net worth. That being said, plenty of online media outlets have attempted to estimate the net worth of Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.

As of August 2022, website wealthygorilla.com estimated that Canelo’s net worth stood in the region of $180m. Another website, celebritynetworth.com, estimated the same figure. How accurate these estimates are is not known.

Meanwhile, in 2022, Forbes reported that Canelo had earned a total of $90m (£74m) in one year from salary and endorsements. Of that number, $85m (£69.8m) is believed to have come from his winnings and salary, while the remaining $4m (£3.2m) came from sponsorships and endorsements. He also earned $40m or more from his two pay-per-view victories in 2021.

Elsewhere, Spanish newspaper AS have estimated that from 2018 to 2021, Canelo earned $220m (£179.8m) from his fights and endorsements. In 2018, Canelo signed a five-year $365m (£298.3m) contract with Golden Boy and DAZN.

Life Away From The Boxing Ring

Given his red hair, one might be forgiven for thinking that Alvarez, whose mother also has red hair, has an Irish connection in his heritage. According an article in The Telegraph back in 2016, Alvarez has said of his complexion that: “there might have been an Irish grandfather somewhere back in the past”.

Away from boxing, Alvarez enjoys horse-riding as a way to relax. He explained: “Riding is just a hobby for me and I’m out on the horse mainly at weekends but I like to go out on horseback after my fights, out into the open countryside, where there are no people, and just relax, with a few friends,” he explained. “We make a fire, cook, and sleep out under the stars. It’s a great feeling.”

Alvarez married his long-term girlfriend Fernanda Gomez in May 2021, in a ceremony held in Guadalajara in Mexico. His wife regularly shares photos of the couple enjoying some downtime on her Instagram profile.

Sponsorships And Business Ventures

Canelo has a lucrative partnership with Hennessy and owns a taco restaurant chain. He also heads Canelo Promotions, which is putting together fights in Mexico in partnership with Matchroom Boxing and DAZN.

In July 2021, Canelo officially unveiled his project for a new gas station brand in Mexico called ‘Canelo Energy’.

What Have Others Said?

Don Chargin, the promoter and consultant to Golden Boy promotions, speaking about his first impressions of Canelo: “Alvarez had an X-factor, the same charisma I’d seen in others over the years. He had great poise, threw a great body shot, and was mature beyond his years. He’s quick, bright, needs to speak the English language better, but this kid’s going to be one one of the great stars of the sport.”

Floyd Mayweather, speaking after beating Alvarez by majority decision in September 2013: “I take my hat off him. Mexico has had some great champions and Canelo is a true champion. I just listened to my dad, he had a great game plan, take my time.”

Dmitry Bivol, speaking after beating Alvarez in May 2022: “I’m glad I proved myself, I’m the best in my division and I keep this belt. He’s a great champion, I respect him and all his team. If you don’t believe in yourself what do you do? You achieve nothing. I believe and my team believed in me. I felt his power. You can see on my arm, he beat my arm up but not my head. That’s better.”

The 31-year-old is widely considered to be one of the most talented attacking players of his generation and has won multiple major trophies at club level.

Born in Mogi das Cruzes, Brazil, Neymar began his youth career at Portuguesa Santista before moving to Santos’ youth set-up in 2003. He broke into the Santos first team in 2009 and subsequently earned a transfer to FC Barcelona in 2013.

In 2017, Neymar left FC Barcelona to sign for French club Paris Saint-Germain and he helped them to win the Ligue 1 title in his first campaign in Paris.

Neymar made his senior international debut for Brazil back in 2010 and has made more than 100 appearances for his country in various competitions.

So, what do we know about Neymar’s journey to becoming the talented footballer we all now know? This is his story.

Early Life, Parents And Upbringing

Neymar (full name: Neymar da Silva Santos Junior) was born on 5 February 1992 in Mogi das Cruzes, Brazil to parents Neymar Santos Sr. and Nadine da Silva. He is named after his father, who is a former footballer. He has a younger sister named Rafaella Santos.

Speaking about his father’s role in his life and career back in 2012, Neymar said: “My father has been by my side since I was little. He takes care of things, my finances and my family. He is the one who is in charge. He’s the boss. There’s always somebody nearby, keeping an eye on me more than watching me.”

Neymar developed as a youngster playing both futsal and street football. He initially started out playing futsal and began also playing football when he was around 11 years old.

Speaking about the influence that playing futsal had on his development, Neymar said in an interview with FourFourTwo magazine in 2016: “Futsal had a massive influence on me when I was growing up. It’s a very demanding game and it really helped to develop my technique, speed of thought, and ability to perform moves in tight spaces.” He added: “I combined football and futsal until I was 14.”

Neymar

Neymar also revealed that he had an almost immediate passion for football after having fallen in love with the sport from an early age.

“I had a very happy childhood and I can still remember waking up every morning just wanting to play football – even though I knew I had to go to school,” Neymar said in the same interview with FourFourTwo. “As soon as I arrived home I used to grab my football and go straight out and I’d play until late at night with my friends. Nothing else seemed to matter to me at that age.

“I can still remember my dad watching all my futsal games and making comments about how I played even when I was so young. He was always there following everything I did.”

Early Career

After having begun playing football from an early age, Neymar was scouted by Santos who offered him a contract in 2003.

He spent six years in the club’s youth set-up before making his senior first-team debut for the club in 2009.

Neymar made his professional debut for Santos on 7 March 2009 when he was 17 years old, coming on as a substitute for the last thirty minutes in a 2–1 win against Oeste.

Reflecting on his professional debut for Santos, Neymar told FourFourTwo: “I didn’t really know what to do! I didn’t know whether to smile, applaud the crowd, wave my hands in the air or just stay serious. It feels quite complicated when you’re that young but I ended up playing that first game and the rest is history.”

Neymar scored his first goal for Santos the following week in a match against Mogi Mirim.

In his five seasons at Santos, Neymar would go on to score a highly impressive 136 goals in 225 games for the Brazilian club, helping them to win three league titles.

His electric performances in Brazil had caught the eye of some top European teams and a move to FC Barcelona soon beckoned in 2013.

FC Barcelona

In May 2013, FC Barcelona agreed a deal to sign the 21-year-old Neymar from Santos. The transfer fee was reported to be in the region of £48.6m (€57m), with the Brazilian penning an initial five-year contract.

Speaking about his decision to join the Spanish club at the time, Neymar said: “Money is OK but happiness takes priority. We decided to come to Barcelona. I had a lot of offers but I followed my heart. I think adjusting to European football may be difficult but I hope to adjust quickly.”

Neymar made his first competitive appearance for FC Barcelona on 18 August 2013 in a 7-0 La Liga win over Levante. He netted his first competitive goal for the Spanish club on 21 August 2013, in the first leg of the 2013 Spanish Super Cup clash against Atletico Madrid.

Neymar then made his Champions League debut on 18 September 2013 in a 4-0 victory over Ajax.

The Brazilian attacker went on to enjoy a sparkling four seasons with FC Barcelona, scoring 105 goals in 186 games for the Spanish club in all competitions.

With FC Barcelona, he won two La Liga titles, one Champions League and three Copa del Reys. He also won the Spanish Super Cup and Fifa Club World Cup.

Paris Saint-Germain

Neymar ended up leaving FC Barcelona after four seasons to sign for French side Paris Saint-Germain.

On 3 August 2017, it was announced that Neymar, then 25 years old, was joining PSG from FC Barcelona for a world-record fee of £200m (€222m).

At the time, it was reported that Neymar would earn €45m (£40.7m) per year – €865,000 (£782,000) per week – before tax from the initial five-year deal, a total outlay of £400m.

Speaking about his decision to join PSG, Neymar said: “Paris St-Germain’s ambition attracted me to the club, along with the passion and the energy this brings. I feel ready to take the challenge. From today, I will do everything I can to help my new team-mates.”

Neymar made his Ligue 1 debut for PSG on 13 August 2017, scoring one goal and assisting another in a 3–0 away victory over Guingamp.

He went on to score 100 goals in 144 games for the French club in all competitions in his next five seasons at PSG.

International Career

Neymar represented Brazil at Under-17, Under-20 and Under-23 level.

He made his senior debut for the Brazilian national team on 10 August 2010 when he was 18 years old, in 2-0 friendly win against the United States in which he scored his first goal for his country.

After going on to score eight goals in his first 16 games for his country, Neymar said: “Being on the Brazilian team is a privilege. There are some marvelous players and I’m very happy to be among them.”

Net Worth, Wages And Salary

As is the case with most celebrities and sports stars, there is no ‘official’ figure for Neymar’s net worth. That being said, a number of online media outlets have attempted to estimate the figure.

In November 2021, The Daily Mirror estimated that Neymar’s net worth stood at around €200m (£168.8m). Meanwhile, in 2022, Spanish newspaper Marca estimated that the Neymar net worth figure was around €182m (£153.8m).

Neymar is also one of the best-paid footballers in the world. In 2022, Forbes estimated that Neymar was earning $95m (£78.6m) per year, making him one of the highest-paid athletes in the world. Of that number, $70 was said to come from his salary, and the remaining $25m was reported to come from sponsorships and endorsements.

What about his wages at PSG? According to L’Equipe, Neymar was earning in the region of £3.4m per month from his salary at Paris Saint-Germain in 2022. This number equates to around £784,600 per week.

At the time of his transfer to PSG from FC Barcelona, BBC Sport reported that Neymar would be earning €45m (£40.7m) per year, which is €865,000 (£782,000) per week, before tax from his contract with the French club.

What Have Others Said?

Lionel Messi, speaking about Neymar in 2020: “Neymar is one of the best in the world. He is a very happy person who is always smiling and enjoys himself on and off the pitch. He gave all the players a lift.”

Ronaldinho, speaking about Neymar in 2015: “Neymar is my heir. He’s performing that role and will do so for many years. He’s a great player and will be the face of the Brazil team throughout the seasons to come.”

David Beckham, speaking about Neymar in 2017: “It’s been clear ever since he signed for Brazilian team Santos at 17 that Neymar is an outstanding talent, a once-in-a-generation type of footballer who has fans on their feet whenever he gets the ball. I’ve always been struck by his humility. He’s respectful and wants to learn, which he proved when he arrived at Barcelona in 2013 to play alongside some of the game’s biggest stars.”

Born in Moscow, Russia in November 1998, Kenin moved to the United States – initially to New York and then Florida – with her family a few months after she was born.

She began playing tennis when she was around five years old and enjoyed a strong junior career, making it up to number two in the junior world rankings.

Kenin reached the final of the junior US Open in 2015 after having also made her grand slam main draw debut as a wildcard in the same year.

She won her first WTA title at the Hobart International in January 2019 and claimed her first grand slam title at the Australian Open in 2020, also reaching the final of the French Open in the same year.

So, what do we know about Sofia’s journey to becoming the talented tennis player that she is today? This is her story.

Early Life, Parents And Upbringing

Sofia Kenin (full name: Sofia Anna Kenin) was born on 14 November 1998 in Moscow, Russia, to parents Alexander and Svetlana Kenin. She has a younger sister.

Kenin’s family moved to the United States when she was just a few months old. Initially, they moved to New York when Sofia was a baby, before then settling in Florida. She now resides in Pembroke Pines, Florida, where she was home-schooled.

Despite her parents not having played the sport previously, Kenin began playing tennis when she was around five years old and immediately showed promise as a youngster.

“My parents say I was playing with balls as a baby, and I didn’t like Barbies,” Kenin said in an interview in 2015. “I went on court and everyone saw I was different.”

Kenin’s parents recognised that their daughter had a natural talent for the game, and they arranged for her to begin training with Rick Macci in Broward County, Florida. Macci coached Kenin until she was 12.

Reflecting on his first impressions of Kenin, Macci said: “Back then [when Kenin was five], I came right out and said Sofia was the scariest little creature I’d ever seen. It was unique – the hand-eye coordination and her ability to take the ball immediately right after the bounce.

“I have a lot of kids do that, but it was almost like it was baked in already, even though she was little and the racket was actually bigger than her. The only player I’ve seen like that is Martina Hingis.”

Kenin’s childhood tennis idols were Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova.

Junior Career

Kenin was a strong junior player and she achieved a career-high junior ranking of number two in the world in November 2015.

In total, she won three ITF junior titles, in 2013, 2014 and 2015. In 2015, she reached the final of the US Open girls’ singles tournament in New York, losing to Hungary’s Dalma Galfi in straight sets in the final.

Early Career And First Title

Although she competed in the girls’ singles event at the 2015 US Open, Kenin was also handed a wildcard into the main draw at Flushing Meadows in the same year.

Aged 16 years old, Kenin took on world number 98 Mariana Duque-Marino in the first round at the US open and lost 6-3, 6-1 on what was her grand slam main draw debut.

“I was having fun out there with fans cheering me on,” Kenin said afterwards. “It was such an amazing experience. It’s unfortunate to have lost, but I’ve worked really hard and I knew it was going to be tough.”

Kenin mainly played on the ITF circuit in the months that followed and was again handed a wildcard into the main draw of the 2016 US Open, where she lost to Karolina Pliskova.

At the 2017 US Open, she won her first career grand slam singles match, after having once again been handed a wildcard into the main draw. She beat fellow American Lauren Davis in the first round before also overcoming Sachia Vickery to make it to the third round of a grand slam for the first time in her career. In the third round, she lost to former world number one Maria Sharapova in straight sets.

Her run at the 2017 US Open helped her to make the decision to turn professional in September 2017 and she began to slowly climb the WTA rankings.

After having made steady progress and breaking into the top 50 in 2018, Kenin won her first WTA Tour singles title in January 2019 at the Hobart International, beating Anna Karolina Schmiedlova in the final, 6-3, 6-0.

Reflecting on claiming her first ever WTA singles title, Kenin said at the time: “I’m so happy to have gotten this title. It was my first year [here] and I’m looking forward to coming back here for many more years to come. I didn’t want to overthink it and I’m happy with the way I composed myself during the match. It might have looked easy, but every game was close and I knew I had to play well.”

At the 2019 French Open, Kenin reached the fourth round of a grand slam for the first time in her career, losing to Ashleigh Barty in round four.

Kenin then won her second career WTA singles title at the Mallorca Open in June 2019. She beat Belinda Bencic in the final 6-7(2), 7-6(5), 6-4, saving three championship points to complete an impressive turnaround.

“Hard work, for sure, is paying off big-time,” Kenin said afterwards. “I’m playing really well, fighting for every point and taking as much advantage as I can. This really is great, and I’m just so happy with how I’m playing.”

She then claimed her third WTA singles title at the Guangzhou International Women’s Open in September 2019, beating Samantha Stosur, 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-2, in the final.

First Grand Slam Title

Kenin continued to make impressive progress on the WTA Tour and started 2020 in the best possible way at the first grand slam of the year.

Aged 21, she captured her first career grand slam title at the 2020 Australian Open, beating the likes of Coco Gauff, Ons Jabeur, and Ash Barty to reach the final. In the final, she came from a set down to defeat Spain’s Garbine Muguruza in three sets, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.

“This is such an honor,” Kenin said afterwards. “I’m so proud of myself, my dad, my team, everyone that has been around me. We’ve all worked hard. We’ve been through tough times. We did it. We fought. I’m just on cloud nine.”

Kenin followed up that triumph by reaching her second grand slam final of the year, this time in the autumn of 2020 at the French Open. After beating the likes of Danielle Collins and Petra Kvitova to reach the final, she lost to Poland’s Iga Swiatek 6-4 6-1.

Earnings And Prize Money

As of August 2022, Sofia Kenin had earned a total of $7,906,435 in career prize money from tennis, combined for both singles and doubles.

Life Away From The Court

Away from tennis, Kenin enjoys rap music, and especially Drake.

According to her WTA profile page, she is good friends with CiCi Bellis and Katie Swan

Her favourite treat food is frozen yogurt – cookies and cream with Hershey’s on top.

What Have Others Said?

Garbine Muguruza, speaking after losing to Kenin in the 2020 Australian Open final: “I’m not very happy about my performance. I think I had to play better today because she came up with a great level. I think at the important moments I didn’t find my shots. I think she found her shots. I did feel a little bit of lack of energy after so many matches. Physically, it was a tough battle out there, so it’s just a tough moment. I think the way she handled the break points and the game points, these kind of moments, I think she came out doing winners, which is a tough moment. I think she played very well. I think it’s her first Grand Slam final for her and she performed really well.”

Sam Stosur, speaking after losing to Kenin in the 2019 Guangzhou International Women’s Open final: “I feel proud of myself. It was a tough match today. She played very, very well for the whole match, and really picked it up in that second and third sets.”
